Boiled Eggs[edit]

Eggs can be cooked in a variety of different ways and are an excellent source of protein. The simplest method is to boil them for a delicious and nutritious breakfast. The most important thing to remember when boiling eggs is timing because this makes the difference between a soft-boiled egg and a hard-boiled egg.

Ingredients[edit]

  • 2 eggs .
  • 2 slices of wholemeal bread .
  • spreadable butter or margarine

Equipment[edit]

  • small saucepan .
  • slotted spoon .
  • toaster .
  • bowl of cold water .
  • 2 egg cups .
  • tea spoon

1.Half-fill a small saucepan with water and place it on the hob. Gently lower the eggs into the pan and bring the water to the boil

2.Boil the eggs for 4 minutes. While the eggs are cooking, you can make the toast. Place the bread in the toaster and toast until golden brown.

3.Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and briefly dip them in cold water. This will cool the eggs and prevent them from cooking any further.

4. Place each egg in an egg cup and tap the top with the back of a teaspoon. Carefully slice off the top with the spoon. Serve with strips of buttered toast.

Helpful Hints[edit]

Food Facts: Although the yolk of your soft-boiled egg will be runny, a properly cooked egg should always have a firm egg white. If the white of your egg is still runny, it hasn’t been cooked for long enough!

Helpful Hints: For hard-boiled eggs, boil the eggs for 6-7 minutes and make sure that they cool completely in step 3.
